Growing up around sports I started playing basketball at the age of 5 and haven’t stopped since. Basketball has taught me many important life lessons like humility, respect and hard work. Early in life we were in subsidized housing, my parents worked two jobs and were rarely home. Having a community through basketball gave me mentorship and guidance that kept me out of trouble. What I have gained from the sport has benefited me throughout my life and career. My goal is to share that knowledge and give opportunities to the next generation.
My two greatest joys in life have been been basketball and working with kids. Basketball has been the common thread that has held my family together and taught me valuable lessons about hard work and perseverance. Throughout the years I have been able to use those lessons I learned to fuel my career and open doors that as a kid growing up on a small farm I never thought would be possible. Throughout my life I have been fortunate enough to have many opportunities working with and mentoring kids through sports.
I started playing basketball at a very young age in Corona, California. Basketball and helping kids in our community has always been a strong passion of mine. I began my collegiate playing career at the University of New Mexico before transferring to the University of Washington. During my two years with the Huskies we won our first Pac-10 Tournament championship, earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament and twice we were able to advance to the Sweet 16. I've also played professionally overseas in Italy, France, Argentina, Iceland, Israel and the Philippines. After playing overseas, I returned to Seattle to pursue coaching opportunities and spent one year at the University of Washington, five seasons at Garfield High and one season at Nathan Hale High where we won a combined five state championships and one national championship. I am excited to be part of Unsung Hoopers and pay forward all of my basketball experiences and knowledge to the kids in our community.
I was born in Compton, California and have been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. During my teenage years, I played high school basketball at Dominguez and Long Beach Poly Highs. I then had the opportunity to play collegiate basketball at the University of Washington where I was a four-year starter and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in writing. After my time at UW, I was selected as the 37th pick in the NBA Draft and played for 2 years in the NBA. Since then I have spent the last 12 seasons playing professionally in Italy. I have a strong passion for supporting kids in our community through mentoring and by sharing my experiences to help guide the next generation.
